Assorted Moving Equipment Necessary for The Big Move

Posted in September 4th, 2009

The relocation business is a reputable industry offering a much-needed service to the public. These professionals utilize various packing materials and moving equipment such as crates and boxes. The packaging supplies that they use are often based on size, weight and fragility of the belongings that have to be transported.

The typical kit of a moving professional includes markers, sealing tapes, various types of wraps and boxes of different sizes. Most relocation companies utilize boxes that they can easily get from supply houses. These standard-sized boxes can usually fit most household items. Some of these boxes are specialized to accommodate irregular objects. One type of box is the Dish Pack. This box is divided into several compartments perfect for stacking china. Another type of box is the Wardrobe box. This type of box has a built-in bar where clothes can be easily hung.

If you need to pack glass ware or crystal ware, there are also special kinds of boxes for these. Boxes for these fragile items usually come cushioned with Styrofoam or foam fillers. There are also Flat Cartons specially made to fit mirrors or pictures. These feature striated cardboard padding to prevent any damage.

Some movers also use special packing papers to protect items before they are loaded into the boxes. Plastic wrap is used to seal the furniture and prevent drawers and lids from opening.
Another type of wrapper is called the Bubble Wrap. This is a plastic wrap which features air pockets to cushion the items and prevent them from getting wet. This is often used to protect delicate or electronic items. Packers tape is used to seal the various boxes.

When all the packing is finished, moving equipment such as Trolleys or Dollies are used to transport and load the cargo into the truck. The moving companies often utilize ramps to wheel the trolleys in. This prevents any floor damage and scratches on the carpets and wooden floors.

Door Jam Protectors and Banister Bumpers are also used by some companies upon special request. These are quilted pads that are put on doors and banisters to prevent them from being damaged while heavy furniture is being moved.

The most obvious moving equipment which the relocation companies have is the transportation. Most companies often have their own fleet of moving trucks specially made to transport cargo. These special trucks are made out of corrugated steel and feature strong doors protected by padlocks. These trucks can also be rented.

Whether you choose to do a self-move or to utilize hired services to facilitate your relocation, make sure that you have all the necessary moving equipment. This makes sure that your property remains undamaged, and that all your precious valuables make it to your destination in one piece.
