Choose a relocation company with a high customer satisfaction score based on a survey conducted by J.D. Power in 2009. This survey was conducted with customers who used full-service moving firms for household moving within 12 months prior to the survey.

The moving companies were rated according to five moving processes, namely moving cost estimation, packing, loading and unloading, transportation of possessions and estimation of insurance coverage. The movers were rated using a scale of 1 to 1,000 points.

The full service moving firms that obtained the highest customer satisfaction scores were Mayflower Transit, which got 831; Allied Van Lines, which had 812; Two Men and a Truck, which got 801; North American Van Lines, which had 795; Bekins Van Lines, which scored 793; United Van Lines, which garnered 793; and Atlas Van Lines, which got 791 points.

Mayflower Transit garnered high scores in all the five factors used for evaluation. The survey found that shipping estimates was a crucial factor for customers looking for a relocation company to hire and that customers typically obtained their estimates over the phone, through the online process, or through a representative that meets with the customer in person.

The survey also found that the estimate process takes on a larger value as a factor because it is also the point where customers weigh whether they like to work with the moving company or not by gauging how accommodating, proactive and comprehensive company employees are.

What is also significant about the survey is that moving companies averaged 804 points in the survey, an increase of 16 points from the survey in 2008. This means that moving companies have been improving their systems to serve customers.

Additionally, the percentage of clients who reported damaged or lost belongings during moving has dropped to lower than 33 percent, which is a significant improvement from almost 50 percent in 2008.

Moving companies have been continuously creating systems to reduce the number of damaged or lost items during moving, but in case there are still damages that occur, customers are protected by their moving insurance policies which they typically get through the moving companies.
